Puppy Biting Tips.

One of the first things you have to deal with as the owner of a new puppy is how to stop puppy from biting and nipping. Nearly all new puppies take part in this behaviour, which is hard wired to its brain, but as a family pet it is a behaviour that needs to be controlled. thankfully it is comparatively easy to stop puppy biting problems very quickly and without a lot of effort. When approaching a problem like this it is important to understand why the behaviour is there before attempting to rectify it.

**Why Do Puppies Bite**
Puppies bite naturally for many reasons and it is important for the dog owner to understand and recognise each of them. 

The puppy is playing.
Curiosity.
To dominate.
Excitement.
Your Puppy is scared.
The hunting instinct.
Pain relief.
Feed me.

Some Breeds are affected more by some of the reasons than others and it is beyond the scope of this article to address them all in detail, therefore the tips and advice that follow are intended to deal with the number one reason for puppy biting as well as providing the advice to overcome most others. The most experienced reason for puppy biting is play biting.

**Stop Puppy Biting**
Coming up are the surefire ways to stop a new puppy from making a meal of you and the family, of course, consistency is the key to success. All the family need to be aware of the approach being taken to control the puppy nipping, including kids, and the technique should be used 100% of the time. A bright dog will learn to stop after only a few lessons but some may take a little longer.

If bitten we need to let the puppy know it is not acceptable, just like another dog we let out a loud indication of pain and immediately suspend play and eye contact, your puppy immediately understands this is a bad thing and will try to make friends again. When puppy knows you should either continue the play and repeat the process every time puppy bites, if everyone apples this technique the puppy will stop biting in record time so everyone can enjoy pain free play sessions.
